Morgan Geyser flees from Wisconsin group home, search in progress

Search Underway for Morgan Geyser After Escape

Authorities have initiated a search for Morgan Geyser, the Wisconsin woman found guilty in the 2014 Slender Man stabbing case. Geyser managed to remove her monitoring bracelet and fled from a group home in Madison on Saturday night.

The Madison Police Department announced her escape in a post on social media on Sunday. In their statement, they noted, “Morgan Geyser was last seen around 8 p.m. on Kroenke Dr. with an adult acquaintance. As of Sunday morning, we do not know her whereabouts.” The department was alerted to her disappearance on Sunday morning.

They added, “Recent images of Geyser from security footage are included below. If you spot her, please call 911.”

Geyser entered a guilty plea in 2017 for attempted first-degree intentional homicide related to the brutal stabbing of Peyton Leutner. Her defense argued that she was not accountable for her actions due to mental illness.

During the investigation, she claimed she attacked Leutner to impress the fictional horror character Slender Man, but was ultimately found not guilty by reason of mental defect.

When she was just 12 years old, Geyser, along with her friend Anissa Weier, lured Leutner to a wooded park during a sleepover in May 2014, where Geyser, influenced by Weier, stabbed Leutner 19 times. Remarkably, Leutner survived the ordeal.

For the past seven years, Geyser has been held at the Winnebago Mental Health Institute. Initially, she was sentenced to 40 years in a psychiatric facility, with the possibility to seek conditional release every six months. According to local station WMTV, before her escape, Geyser was residing at a group home in Madison.
