Trump Comments on Tariffs and Their Impact

President Donald Trump has indicated that the “full benefits” of tariffs have yet to be fully realized. He believes that some of the effects are moderated by a stockpile of goods that businesses have accumulated to avoid tariff payments. However, he suggests that this stockpile is gradually diminishing, implying that the actual impact of the tariffs will soon become evident.

On Monday morning, Trump stated in a post on Truth Social, “Despite the hundreds of billions of dollars in profits that the United States makes as a direct result of tariffs imposed on other countries, the full benefit of the tariffs has not yet been calculated, as many purchasers of goods and products ‘stock up’ by purchasing more inventory than they can use in order to avoid paying tariffs in the short term.”

He added, “However, those large inventory purchases have now faded and tariffs will soon be unavoidably paid on everything subject to them, exponentially increasing the amounts paid to the United States beyond the already historic levels of receipts.”

Trump has maintained that these tariffs will enhance the nation’s wealth and security. “These payments are record-setting and will take our country in a new and unprecedented direction. We are already the ‘hottest’ nation in the world, but this tariff power will give America national security and wealth never seen before. Those who oppose us are serving hostile foreign interests that are not aligned with America’s success, security, and prosperity. They will not leave us alone,” he noted.

Still, public opinion seems to diverge from the president’s views on tariffs. A recent Fox News poll revealed that only 35% of registered voters approve of Trump’s tariffs, while a significant 63% do not. The poll also indicated that just 38% of respondents approve of his overall economic response, with 61% disapproving.

When it comes to the impact of the Trump administration’s economic policies, the poll showed that 46% of participants felt harmed by these policies, 15% believed they benefited, and 39% felt there was little difference in their circumstances. This survey was conducted with a sample of 1,005 registered voters from November 14 to 17, 2025, carrying a margin of error of 3 percentage points.
