Trump Critiques GOP Members Amid Party Friction
President Trump expressed frustration toward certain Republicans, targeting three individuals who have been critical of him and commenting on senators who opposed the filibuster. He claimed that the Republican Party has “never been more united.”
“The Republican Party has never been more united than it is now! Except for Rand Paul, Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Brown, Massie, and a few other ‘scumbags,'” Trump said on social media late Sunday.
“There is a strong sense of spirit and unity, though there’s a rift concerning the filibuster. Many want it ended—Democrats would, at the first chance they get—but some remain hesitant,” he added.
Trump’s optimistic remarks stand in contrast to recent tensions within the party. Earlier this month, he criticized Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) after she supported the release of Justice Department documents related to Jeffrey Epstein and questioned Trump’s commitment to the “America First” agenda.
In a surprising announcement, Greene revealed her retirement plans effective January 5, 2026, making her eligible for a congressional pension at age 62. This could jeopardize the House Republicans’ fragile majority, particularly if Democrats secure a victory in the special election for her Tennessee seat on December 2.
Additionally, Trump has been publicly critical of Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and has allowed some of his senior team to assist in the primary campaign of Libertarian-aligned Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.).
Following the recent end of the government shutdown on November 12, tensions have intensified among Republicans. Last week, the House Republican caucus expressed outrage over a failed attempt to censure Rep. Stacey Plaskett (D-VI) concerning her past emails with Epstein, as they sought to find dirt on Trump.
At the same time, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) called for a vote to confront Rep. Cory Mills (R-Fla.) over several allegations, which Mills has denied. Differences between House Republicans and the Senate also emerged regarding a bill provision allowing senators who were surveilled to sue for damages.
Trump has consistently urged Senate Republicans to eliminate the 60-vote filibuster, which has been utilized by Democrats to maintain a government shutdown that lasted for 43 days.
He concluded, “The Republican Party is much larger than when I announced it in 2015. We have millions more members, the strongest borders in history, significant tax cuts, and the best economy and stock market ever. And there’s more to come! Vote Republican!!!”
