O’Reilly Criticizes Sen. Kelly Over Disobedience Video
Former Fox News host Bill O’Reilly expressed criticism on Monday towards Arizona Senator Mark Kelly for his involvement in a video encouraging military personnel to disregard what he termed “unlawful” orders from the Trump administration.
In response to the video, the Department of the Army announced that an investigation by the Pentagon would be initiated regarding Kelly’s actions. On NewsNation’s “On Balance with Leland Wittert,” O’Reilly argued that Kelly should not have participated in the video, suggesting it was primarily intended to undermine Trump.
O’Reilly stated, “I’m disappointed in Senator Kelly. I think he made a huge mistake by getting involved in this ridiculous farce. No responsible senator would make something up.” He further questioned the rationale behind discussing illegal orders if none existed, implying it was merely to embarrass Trump and stir animosity against him.
Additionally, O’Reilly pondered, “Why would Kelly, who has an outstanding record in both the military and Congress, want to join the military? What are the benefits?”
In the video featuring Kelly alongside five other Democratic senators, they warned service members that their trust with the American people was jeopardized and advised them not to “abandon ship.” Kelly reminded them of their “oath” and asserted their right to refuse unlawful orders.
Notably, Kelly is a retired Navy captain and remains subject to the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) as a veteran, which the Department of the Army acknowledged.
The Army emphasized that veterans are still bound by the UCMJ regarding applicable offenses, and reminded that federal law prohibits actions intended to disrupt military order and discipline. Any breaches would be addressed through legal channels.
Secretary of the Army Pete Hegseth referred to the Democratic senators as the “Seditious Six” and specifically called out Kelly for his past as a Navy commander. He remarked, “As announced, the department is reviewing his statements and actions, which were addressed directly to the entire force while explicitly utilizing his rank and affiliation, giving his words an impression of authority.” Hegseth concluded that Kelly’s actions dishonor the military and would be addressed appropriately.
