Tre’von Moehrig of the Panthers suspended for punching Jauan Jennings in the groin

Carolina Panthers safety Trevon Mehrig has been suspended for throwing a punch at 49ers receiver Jauan Jennings in the groin during the fourth quarter of the 20-9 loss on Monday Night Football.

After the game, Jennings confronted Mehrig and slapped him, which resulted in a chaotic scene with players and coaches stepping in to break up the confrontation.

Mehrig is currently appealing a one-game suspension for unsportsmanlike conduct, which would prevent him from playing against the Rams this Sunday.

The NFL cited Mehrig for violating Rule 12, Section 3, regarding conduct that goes against the principles of sportsmanship, specifically referencing the act of throwing punches or using excessive force against an opponent.

The 26-year-old safety plans to take legal action against the hearing officers, which include Derrick Brooks, Ramon Foster, and Jordy Nelson, who are responsible for deciding on player discipline appeals set by the NFL and NFLPA.

Jennings’ actions during the game are also under review and could result in fines.

Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan described Mehrig’s actions as a “cheap shot.” Afterward, he expressed pride in Jennings for maintaining his composure despite the incident.

Jennings later commented that his reaction was simply a response to childish behavior. Meanwhile, Mehrig downplayed the confrontation, stating, “It’s no big deal, brother. He wanted to do some dirty stuff. So that’s what it is, dude.”
