This week, the popular holiday light show at Saks Fifth Avenue’s main store made its return, following a hiatus last year when the displays were canceled to save costs.
Now celebrating its 21st year, the grand show illuminated Fifth Avenue on Monday for the first time since 2023, featuring towering decorations over two stories, all set to a festive music mix that included Paul McCartney’s “Wonderful Christmas Time” and Rihanna’s “Diamonds.”
The kickoff event also showcased a special kickline performance by the Radio City Rockettes, who performed selections from the classic “Christmas Spectacular,” styled with unique hairpieces featuring a saxophone design.
“This return of the holiday light show honors Saks Fifth Avenue’s legacy as a spot for unique experiences that inspire connection,” said Kristin Marr, the chief marketing officer of Saks Global, in a statement.
“We’re really excited to bring this to life through creativity and craftsmanship, continuing a beloved tradition that marries the joy of the New York City holiday season with our distinct creative flair,” Marr added.
The light show is scheduled to run every 10 minutes from 5 PM to 11 PM until January 4, 2026.
During the launch event, Saks also revealed its annual holiday window display, which this year focuses on landmark moments from the Rockettes’ century-long history, with a showcase on 49th Street.
This iconic display features some of the most famous costumes worn by the Rockettes over the years, along with original sketches from renowned designers like Vincente Minnelli and Bob Mackie, as well as designs for timeless songs including “Parade of the Wooden Soldiers,” “The Twelve Days of Christmas,” and “Dance of the Fairies in the Frost.”
Six windows facing Fifth Avenue depict various holiday scenes in New York City—think gift-filled taxis, vibrant theater nights, serene views of a snowy Central Park with rowboats, and charming “Advent Townhouses” that reflect classic New York City architecture.
Additional windows along 49th and 50th Streets showcase seasonal designs from brands such as Michael Kors, Fendi, Valentino, Aknuvas, Prabal Gurung, Brandon Maxwell, Giorgio Armani, Alexander McQueen, and others.
A spokesperson for Saks did not comment on why the decision was made to bring back the show after its cancellation last year.
The initial cancellation of the Christmas celebrations, which have taken place since 2004, was met with disappointment from tourists.
A Saks representative had noted that the luxury goods industry faced challenges and that they were managing their operations cautiously to ensure a better position for the future.
