Rick Fox Enters Politics
Rick Fox is stepping into the political scene. The three-time NBA Finals champion announced his run for the Bahamian House of Representatives on Monday, aiming for the 2026 elections.
At 56, Fox, who was born in Canada and grew up in the Bahamas, shared through a Facebook post his motivations for joining politics. He mentioned listening to the “hopes and frustrations” of the Bahamian people.
He stated, “The Bahamas comes first, and we must start now.” Fox expressed his urgency in making changes, saying, “You have shared your desire for greater transparency, a modern economy that prioritizes affordability and safety, and a country where opportunity is a reality, not just a promise. I share that vision too.” I mean, it sounds quite ambitious, right? He really seems passionate about the future he envisions for the Bahamas.
Originally from Canada, Fox moved to the Bahamas, where his mother competed in the high jump and pentathlon for Canada at the 1964 Summer Olympics. He played basketball at Kingsway Academy before moving to Indiana for high school.
Fox later found success at the University of North Carolina and spent 13 years in the NBA, notably with the Celtics and Lakers. Not to mention, he was part of the Lakers’ three-peat between 2000 and 2002, which must have been quite the ride.
His post-basketball career has been diverse, including over 80 acting credits, with his latest role in the 2005 Spike Lee movie “Highest 2 Lowest.” He also co-founded the esports team Echo Fox back in 2015.
In his statement, he emphasized the need for “transparency” within the Bahamian government. He added, “As a candidate and leader of the Bahamas, while I demand transparency, honesty, and integrity, I also demand a level of excellence from all of us.” That’s certainly a strong call to action.
