Buffalo Bills Sign Brandin Cooks

Following their recent 23-19 loss to the Houston Texans, the Buffalo Bills have decided to bolster their wide receiver squad. On Tuesday, they announced the signing of Brandin Cooks to the active roster.

At 32 years old, Cooks had negotiated his release from the New Orleans Saints on November 22nd, cleared waivers, and subsequently joined the Bills. In a related move, the team let go of wide receiver Elijah Moore.

This marks the sixth team in Cooks’ 12-year NFL career. He originally entered the league in 2014 with the Saints, later moving to the New England Patriots after three seasons. His journey continued from the Patriots to the Los Angeles Rams, then to the Houston Texans, and eventually to the Dallas Cowboys. After becoming a free agent, he re-signed with the Saints.

In his 10 games with the Saints this season, Cooks compiled 19 receptions for 165 yards. Last season, as a Cowboy, he recorded 29 catches, 259 yards, and three touchdowns across 10 games. Cooks’ total career stats show he has made 729 receptions for 9,697 yards and scored 60 touchdowns.

The Bills are hoping Cooks can provide the much-needed support in their receiving corps. They have been facing challenges with injuries; star tight end Dalton Kincaid has missed the last three games due to a hamstring issue, while second-year wide receiver Keon Coleman has also been dealing with injuries over the past two weeks. With these critical players out, quarterback Josh Allen lacks a solid No. 1 receiver.

Currently, Khalil Shakir leads the team’s receiving stats, with 54 receptions for 564 yards and three touchdowns. Only Kincaid has more touchdown catches than Shakir, with four.

As the Bills, sitting at 7-4, prepare to face the Pittsburgh Steelers (6-5) in a pivotal AFC matchup on Sunday, they are counting on Cooks to make an immediate impact.
