Shedua Sanders Responds to Sabotage Claims
Shedua Sanders has made it clear he’s not buying into the “sabotage” narrative circulating around the team. During a media session on Wednesday, the rookie quarterback of the Browns took aim at reporters, suggesting they were creating unnecessary drama by implying that head coach Kevin Stefanski was somehow obstructing him.
“Are you just looking to stir things up?” Sanders questioned them directly.
When a reporter replied with a “no,” he pressed on about Sanders’ dynamic with Stefanski, especially as he gears up for his second start. Sanders responded, “What folks do outside the facility is beyond my control. It’s not something I can dictate.” He emphasized that he’s quite pleased to be part of the team and praised Stefanski for his coaching approach thus far.
Sanders, at just 23, happens to be the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders. He had initially been a hot commodity heading into the draft, but, surprisingly, he was picked in the fifth round, landing at the 144th spot with Cleveland.
Initially, he was seated as the fourth quarterback on the roster, trailing behind seasoned players like Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett. He did see some action during the preseason, but some in-game decisions—such as being pulled before a crucial two-minute drill against the Rams—led to perceptions of sabotage regarding this high-profile prospect.
Addressing the conspiracy talk, Stefanski remarked back in August, “I’m focused on developing all of our new players. That’s what matters most to me.”
Last week, Sanders was named the starting quarterback after Dillon Gabriel entered concussion protocol. In his first outing, he threw for 209 yards, including one touchdown and one interception, helping secure a 24-10 win over the Raiders. Now, he’s set to face the 49ers this Sunday.
Reflecting on his connection with Stefanski, Sanders noted that it has notably improved. “He guides me both on and off the field. Our relationship has definitely matured, and I’m just thankful to be here,” he shared.
