Mike Kafka Faces Criticism from Various Figures

Mike Kafka has drawn criticism from notable individuals, including Malik Nabors, former President Trump, and even his own father.

Many Giants fans are particularly focused on Kafka’s response to Nabors, who recently challenged the interim coach’s decision-making and play-calling during a crucial moment. This came when the Giants opted for a touchdown instead of a field goal late in a game against the Lions, even while leading by three points.

Kafka mentioned he “didn’t actually see” Nabors’ now-deleted tweet. “All I know is I really like this decision. I support it wholeheartedly, and I have no regrets,” he stated.

Two weeks prior, Kafka made a firm choice to bench Abdul Carter for a series after the player missed a walk-through. He acknowledged not having spoken with Nabors about the public criticism since, “I haven’t seen it.”

It might seem strange, but under Brian Daboll’s leadership, the Giants have significantly limited Nabors’ influence, involving him in various aspects from play-calling to the quest for a franchise quarterback.

Nabors expressed frustration, saying, “Am I missing something? You throw the ball instead of running it to force two timeouts? And you don’t kick a field goal?”

ESPN’s analysis indicated that the Giants actually improved their chances of winning by 7.1 percent by going for it on fourth down. However, a failed pitch by Jameis Winston and a shaky defense led to a tying field goal, resulting in a loss in overtime.

The NFL allows players to voice their opinions, Kafka pointed out. “Every player will have an opinion, and that’s okay. But at the end of the day, we need to make decisions on game day,” he added.

Nabors, who is sidelined for the season due to a torn ACL, has relocated to East Rutherford for rehabilitation. This may create chances to resolve any tension.

Kafka stated, “If something is detrimental to the team, we’ll discuss it internally and move forward.”

On Truth Social, President Trump criticized the Giants for not kicking a simple field goal while leading by six points with just under three minutes left in the game, labeling it “crazy” and “weird.”

“Being in this position means you have to make tough calls,” Kafka noted. “It’s a big responsibility, and I enjoy it.”

“Everyone will have an opinion, and that’s perfectly fine. I’ll focus on doing my best for the team to ensure we have a chance to win,” he concluded, mentioning feedback from various sources around him, including players and family.

In moments of pressure, Kafka emphasized the need for growth and resilience, saying, “When it gets tough, we need to be the ones making plays to win. I want our players to embody that mindset.”

In injury updates, DT Dexter Lawrence was not present at practice, having reached his limit during Sunday’s game, while OLB Kayvon Thibodeau and ILB Demetrius Flanigan-Fowles were also absent. No official injury reports were released.
