Condemnation of D.C. Shooting Incident
Alex Soros, the son of prominent philanthropist George Soros, expressed his outrage regarding the recent shooting in Washington, D.C., which left three people dead, including two National Guard members. He extended his thoughts to those affected, wishing them a swift recovery.
Soros, who leads the Open Society Foundations Board of Directors, described the news as “horrifying” in a post on X, emphasizing his strong condemnation of the violence and his hopes for the recovery of the injured Guardsman.
According to reports, three individuals were shot on Wednesday afternoon in Washington, D.C., resulting in a lockdown of the White House.
Local news outlet WJLA stated that the suspect has been apprehended. Meanwhile, the Associated Press noted that the condition of the injured Guardsman remains unclear. The DC Joint Task Force confirmed that the incident took place “near the White House.”
Additionally, it was reported that the shooting occurred close to the entrance of the Farragut West subway station. Army Secretary Pete Hegseth labeled the attack as “despicable” and asserted that it only strengthens the commitment to ensuring the safety and beauty of Washington, D.C.
Former President Trump commented that the Department of Homeland Security believes the shooter was an Afghan national who had been brought to the U.S. by President Biden during a chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021. Trump criticized the situation, saying that nobody was aware of who was coming in and lamented the consequences of Biden’s decisions during that time.
There is a call for increased scrutiny of individuals who were relocated from Afghanistan during such evacuation efforts.
The suspect has been identified as 29-year-old Rahmanullah Rakanwar, an Afghan national, according to several law enforcement officials. Reports indicate that he used a handgun in the attack on the two National Guardsmen.
