Tragic Announcement from Jackson Browne
Jackson Browne has shared the heartbreaking news regarding the passing of his son, Ethan Brown.
On Instagram, Browne revealed that his 52-year-old son was found unresponsive at home on November 25. The family issued a statement expressing their profound sadness, stating, “It is with deep sadness that we share the loss of Ethan Brown, the son of Jackson Browne and Phyllis Major, who was found unresponsive in his home on the morning of November 25, 2025. We ask for privacy and respect for the family during this difficult time. No further details are available at this time.”
Jackson Browne and Phyllis Major were married in 1975. Tragically, Major took her own life when Ethan was just a toddler, in 1976.
Ethan first made headlines in 1974, gracing the cover of Rolling Stone magazine with his father, who held him closely.
Aside from his early life in the spotlight, Ethan appeared in the film “Raising Helen” in 2004 and founded Spinside Records, a part of Inside Recordings.
“It is with deep sadness that we share that on the morning of November 25, 2025, Ethan Brown, son of Jackson Browne and Phyllis Major, was found unresponsive in his home and passed away.”
Reflecting on fatherhood after Major’s death, Jackson shared in 2021 that juggling his career and being a parent was his primary focus. He noted, “If I have to be a father, then I just know that and do it.”
In a candid recollection, he acknowledged the difficulties of parenthood, admitting, “You think you have the advice and help you need, but sometimes you don’t, and sometimes you don’t pay attention. The mistakes I made as a parent are still with me. I think about them often.” His reflections reveal a mix of pride and remorse, illustrating the complexities of balancing personal aspirations and family responsibilities.
In a past interview, he expressed admiration for Ethan’s qualities as a father, saying, “Ethan is a great father. He’s a great son and a great man. I love seeing him with his kids.” These sentiments highlight a bond that continued to thrive, even amidst struggles.
