Colorado Senator Faith Winter (D) tragically lost her life on Wednesday in a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 25 in Centennial, which also resulted in several injuries.
The cause of the crash is still unclear, as CBS News reported. Winter was 45 years old and a mother of two.
“The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the five-car collision took place in the northbound lanes of Interstate 25 near Dry Creek Road in Centennial. At least three others sustained injuries in the incident,” the Sheriff’s Office stated. This information was shared by 9 News.
Winter represented Bloomfield and was wrapping up her final term after serving 12 years in the state legislature.
A photograph has circulated showing the possible crash scene where a vehicle overturned.
According to Denver 7, her family expressed their grief, stating, “The family of Sen. Faith Winter is heartbroken by her passing. Faith was a great leader, a trusted friend, a loving partner, and a devoted mother. She led with empathy and compassion. The family is grateful for the outpouring of support and asks for privacy during this difficult time.”
The accident led to the temporary closure of a section of the interstate near Dry Creek Road, though it was cleared for traffic shortly before midnight.

Governor Jared Polis took to social media to express his sorrow over Winter’s death, extending condolences to her family and those who knew her.
“Our state is in mourning over the loss of Sen. Faith Winter. We send our deepest sympathies to her children, loved ones, friends, and colleagues throughout Colorado,” he stated.
“Faith was a passionate supporter of hardworking Coloradans, families, women, and environmental issues. I’ve known her for nearly 20 years—first as an environmental advocate, then as a champion for women’s leadership, and ultimately as a state senator,” he added.
“It was a privilege to collaborate with her on various initiatives aimed at improving the lives of our citizens and addressing climate issues. Her absence will be deeply felt by her family, friends, and community. Colorado is better because of Faith’s dedication and advocacy,” Polis concluded.
