Erica Kirk Reflects on Thanksgiving after Charlie’s Death
Erica Kirk marked her family’s first Thanksgiving without her late husband, Charlie Kirk, by sharing a poignant message centered around grief, gratitude, and faith.
In an Instagram post, Erica, who was married to the founder of Turning Point USA, expressed how she and Charlie cherished Thanksgiving for its emphasis on the simple yet profound act of being thankful. “Even now, particularly in the depths of my pain, I hold onto that sense of gratitude,” she mentioned. “I’ve been blessed with a wonderful marriage, a beautiful child, family, friends, and support from people around the world who have sent letters, toys, art, and Bibles.”
Erica also opened up about a touching moment with her daughter, who innocently asked, “Where’s Daddy?”
She emphasized how easy it is to dwell on loss and what’s absent. Yet, she noted, “In my weakness, the Lord meets me, and His strength shifts my focus to what we still have here.” She underscored that what remains in her life is sacred.
Charlie Kirk was tragically killed in September at just 31, leaving behind Erica and their two young children—a daughter born in 2022 and a son born in 2024.
Throughout the months following her husband’s death, Erica has felt an overwhelming amount of love and support. “Words can’t adequately describe what that means for me and my kids,” she remarked. “I read every letter and opened each gift, saving them for when the children are older.”
In sharing how she talks about heaven with her kids, Erica conveyed that she wants them to understand that “Daddy is having so much fun and is building a place for us.” This, she believes, offers a comforting perspective amid their grief.
Concluding her reflection, Erica sent heartfelt Thanksgiving wishes to Charlie: “I’ll have a plate ready for you.”
