Florida Teacher Arrested for Sending Inappropriate Photos to Student

A 22-year-old physical education teacher at a Christian school in Florida has been arrested for allegedly sending explicit photos to a 13-year-old middle school student.

Detectives from the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office arrested Yezmar Angianis Ramos-Figueroa this week, charging him with distributing obscene material to a minor and communicating harmful material to a minor. Both charges are considered felonies.

Ramos-Figueroa was employed at Central Point Christian Academy, which is a private K-12 school near Orlando, specifically at the middle school in Kissimmee, roughly 20 miles south of the city.

The situation came to light after the victim’s mother reported inappropriate touching in mid-October. Following that, detectives spoke with the victim and seized text messages and photos sent by Ramos-Figueroa. When confronted by detectives, Ramos-Figueroa confessed to sending the messages and photos and was subsequently booked into the Osceola County Jail.

No information has been provided regarding the victim’s gender.

Ramos-Figueroa’s Facebook page, under the name “Yezmar A. Ramos,” showcases various photographs. He is currently in custody with a bail set at $10,000. If found guilty, he faces up to five years in prison for each felony charge.

Recent reports highlight a troubling trend in sexual misconduct cases involving educators. For example, in Colorado, another physical education teacher faced charges for stalking a former student following the end of a sexual relationship.

This year, many incidents reported involved young female teachers, suggesting that sending provocative messages may serve as an initial step in a predatory grooming process.

According to a 2023 report, allegations of sexual abuse involving educators have risen significantly, with a 53% increase in assaults and nearly 100% in rape or attempted rape cases when compared to prior years. The actual prevalence of such issues might be even underestimated, as only a small fraction of students openly report these misconducts.
