12-Year-Old Rescued from Sand Collapse in Texas
A 12-year-old girl was saved after getting trapped in a sand hole in Texas, authorities reported. The incident occurred on Thanksgiving Day, around 5 p.m., as multiple agencies responded to a situation involving a child who had become stuck after a sand hole she had dug collapsed.
The Woodlands Fire Department, located near Houston, explained that first responders were directed to a sandbar along the west bank of Panther Creek. The girl had been on a family outing when the accident happened, leading to her being fully encased in sand. Fortunately, her father arrived and managed to free sand from around her head, allowing her to breathe.
When responders reached the site, they found only her face and head exposed. They quickly worked to secure the area and carefully removed the sand to rescue her.
Images from the rescue show first responders equipped with shovels. Various agencies, including the South Montgomery County Fire Department and the Montgomery County Hospital District, participated in the operation.
After being medically assessed, the girl was released to her parents, who opted not to take her to a hospital.
The fire department noted that the teamwork of the first responders turned a potentially tragic event into a story of resilience that will likely resonate for years to come.
