Oreo is the most popular airport snack in the U.S., according to new map data.

A recently released map showcasing America’s top airport snacks highlights what passengers are keen to grab before boarding. The analysis by eSIM provider Holafly sheds light on regional preferences, revealing that nationwide, Oreo cookies reign supreme.

From Sour Patch Kids in Maine to beef jerky in the South, there’s a whole range of snacks that people munch on while waiting for their flights. Despite some criticism of airport food choices, with remarks about their unhealthy nature, Oreos stayed firmly at the top, clocking in over 110,000 searches across the country.

Here’s a look at the ten favorite airport snacks and where they’re particularly popular:

1. Oreo

The well-loved cookie garnered 113,380 searches, notably in Alabama, Wisconsin, and Illinois. First introduced in 1912, Oreos have had some interesting variations over the years. It’s amusing to think about the original lemon-filled version versus today’s classics.

2. Jack Link Beef Jerky

Coming in second is Jack Link’s Beef Jerky Sticks. This protein-packed snack, especially in flavors like peppery and teriyaki, seems to be a favorite in states like Idaho, Texas, Louisiana, and Iowa. Holly LaVallie from Link Snacks mentioned that this trend shows how much value travelers place on protein snacks to keep them energized without the sugar crash.

3. Cheetos Puff

Cheetos Puffs snagged the third spot on the list, showing popularity in places such as Hawaii and Pennsylvania. There’s just something about that cheesy flavor that captures attention.

4. Cheetos Flamin’ Hot Crunchy

Following closely are the Flamin’ Hot Cheetos, which seem to draw in searches from places like Nevada and Nebraska. The spiciness definitely seems to appeal to many!

5. Twizzler

Twizzlers took fifth place and remain a beloved candy choice, especially in states like Montana and Indiana. Acquired by Hershey in 1977, it’s interesting how this iconic candy continues to hold its position in the snack world.

6. Sour Patch Kids

These chewy candies, known for their sweet and sour taste, were the top pick in Florida and New Hampshire. It’s fascinating how a candy introduced in 1985 has expanded into a variety of products outside just the original candy.

7. Dunkin’

Dunkin’ secured its spot with its signature donuts and coffee leading searches in New York and South Dakota. The brand emphasizes its dedication to being a go-to stop for travelers needing a pick-me-up.

8. Welch’s Fruit Snacks

In West Virginia and North Dakota, Welch’s Fruit Snacks emerged as a favored choice. Since their launch in 2001, they’ve climbed the ranks to become a well-loved snack.

9. Doritos (Cool Ranch)

The Cool Ranch flavor of Doritos stood out in states like Washington and South Carolina. Even though other flavors like Spicy Sweet Chili were popular in some areas, they didn’t make the nationwide top 10.

10. Haribo Gold Bears

Finally, Haribo Gold Bears rounded out the top ten, especially favored in Georgia and New Mexico. These gummy snacks bring a sense of nostalgia and joy to travelers, which is quite lovely to think about amidst the hustle of travel.

Additional items that attracted attention in different states included Peanut M&M’s and Chobani Vanilla Yogurt. It’s always intriguing to see how snacks can vary so widely across the country, reflecting local tastes and preferences.
