Quarterback-Rookie Dynamics: Sanders and Jeudy Work Through Challenges
Shedur Sanders and Jerry Jeudy seem to be navigating some growing pains together as Sanders steps in as the Browns’ quarterback for the last couple of weeks.
This situation sparked a notable discussion on the sidelines at the beginning of the fourth quarter during Sunday’s game, captured during the CBS broadcast.
The duo was seen peering at one of the team’s tablets, with Jeudy appearing to explain something to Sanders. At one point, Sanders pointed at his screen rather vigorously, which seemed to annoy Jeudy. But then, in a twist, the quarterback showed him something else that prompted Jeudy to shout, “That’s wrong.”
Things got tense until Browns center Ethan Pocic intervened, stepping in to calm the two down.
Unfortunately for the Browns, they suffered a loss to the 49ers, finishing the game at 26-8.
Jeudy managed three catches for just 26 yards after being targeted four times. There was an early pass attempt that hinted at a miscommunication between the two, raising some eyebrows. It seemed like Sanders threw a catchable pass, but fans noticed Jeudy didn’t appear to be fully engaged on the play.
Sanders also faced some criticism for a pass he almost turned into a touchdown but missed. Perhaps it was a sign of the ongoing adjustments they both need to make.
Reflecting on the challenges, Sanders noted, “Overall, I would say it’s all about how you use your time. It’s important to spend time in those situations and assess what’s happening. Every quarterback knows you have to cut through the wind with every throw.” He continued, “It was just a missed shot. I had to push myself and keep shooting.”
He added that building chemistry takes time, explaining, “This team is not like a microwave. We’ll have sparks here and there, but it’s going to take time to connect with everyone and get on the same page with Jerry.”
Jeudy has been under increased scrutiny this season, leading the NFL with nine dropped passes.
Next week, both players will get another chance to sync up, as Sanders has been named the starter again.
