Cuomo Questions Ocasio-Cortez’s Patriotism

During an episode of “The Chris Cuomo Project,” host Chris Cuomo expressed skepticism about whether Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez truly loves America. He mentioned her identification as a democratic socialist and referenced her critique of capitalism, calling it “irredeemable” and advocating for U.S. apologies to Latin America over past interventions.

Cuomo noted that, unlike his father, former Democratic New York Governor Mario Cuomo, Ocasio-Cortez and other left-leaning politicians seem to act as if they disregard their country. He stated, “They hate it more than they love it, and that may be unfair,” but suggested it’s a reflection of the claims they make about themselves.

In response, progressive YouTuber Brian Tyler Cohen pointed out that criticism of the United States does not equate to being unpatriotic. Cuomo questioned why American flags have become associated primarily with the Republican Party, emphasizing that dissent is an important aspect of patriotism.

However, he also highlighted a perceived lack of positive remarks about America from Democrats, questioning when he last heard Ocasio-Cortez say something good about the nation.

Ocasio-Cortez has been active in pushing for initiatives like the Green New Deal, aimed at achieving net-zero emissions, and has partnered with independent Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders in an effort against economic disparity.

Interestingly, a recent Harvard Youth Poll indicated that only 24% of Democrats aged under 30 feel “proud to be an American,” while a significant 54% expressed feelings of embarrassment about being American.
