Kash Patel responds to the awkward story about the FBI raid jacket

FBI Director Kash Patel Comments on Mockery from Democratic Lawmaker

FBI Director Kash Patel recently took aim at a Democratic lawmaker after allegations surfaced that the lawmaker, Rep. Eric Swalwell, declined to disembark from a plane in Utah without being provided a raid jacket. The situation took a humorous twist with reports of Swalwell wearing a women’s jacket the day after Charlie Kirk’s assassination.

While Patel didn’t confirm or deny the incident, he did respond, accusing Swalwell of being the target of mockery. He also referenced Swalwell’s past connections with suspected Chinese spies, which added fuel to the fire of their ongoing spat.

“I was looking for something impactful for young people… It’s quite the feat, really, that domestic terrorism arrests are up 30% this year, considering I’ve spent no time at all with a Chinese spy named Fanfan. So, uh, where should I send a female medium for a date night?” Patel retorted on social media.

Swalwell has previously faced scrutiny due to his relationship with a suspected Chinese spy, Fang Huang (or Christine Fang). She attended a fundraising event for him in 2014, but he severed ties in 2015 after concerns about foreign influence were raised.

The California Democratic Party criticized Patel in light of a report by a national coalition of active FBI agents. This report revealed that on September 11, 2025, an agent with the Salt Lake City field office had to search around to find a matching medium-size FBI raid jacket.

Ultimately, Patel was lent a female agent’s jacket, but he expressed dissatisfaction that the jacket lacked Velcro patches in two spots.

Swalwell sarcastically commented on social media, “Never mind the fact that Patel had to wear a women’s jacket to pretend he’s in charge. I hope he’s really focusing on tackling the domestic terrorism issue he’s responsible for.”

A SWAT team member reportedly gave up a patch from his own uniform for Patel, who then donned the borrowed jacket.

In the report, Patel also pointed out perceived shortcomings among FBI agents linked to Kirk’s assassination and praised advancements made by other law enforcement agencies.

Despite the criticisms, Patel and his deputy, Dan Bongino, have defended their leadership amid various allegations, with Bongino claiming that “Anonymous Ray Comey-era FBI sources are intent on derailing our reforms.” He emphasized their commitment to improving crime stats and maintaining safety in the country.
