Jonathan Roumie Shares How Atheists Are Finding Christ Through ‘The Chosen’

Jonathan Roumie, known for his role as Jesus in the popular series The Chosen, recently discussed how the show has impacted numerous viewers, even some who initially identified as atheists, claiming it led them to explore their faith.

While appearing on ABC’s The View, he talked about filming for Season 6 and also highlighted a 25-day Advent prayer challenge associated with the Hallow app.

He shared that he had received messages on Instagram from two fans who were lifelong atheists before viewing the series.

“These two fans reached out to me and, incredibly, they had no interest in God whatsoever,” Roumie mentioned. “Then they stumbled upon the show, and the first episode caught their attention.” He emphasized that if God intends to connect with someone, He will find a way, which led these viewers to become curious about the Bible and eventually attend church, ultimately converting to Christianity, which he found remarkable.

The Chosen is a faith-centric drama that portrays the life of Jesus through the eyes of his followers. The premiere of Season 6 will focus on the crucifixion, with the first episode launching in late 2026, followed by the last episode expected to release on March 12, 2027, just in time for Easter.

Roumie also described the challenges of filming the crucifixion scene, noting that it wasn’t just the physical demands but also the emotional and psychological toll it took. “I prayed for insight into the experience, and I believe I received it. It’s something I’m still working through,” he admitted.

When asked about the possibility of a non-believer portraying Christ, he expressed doubts about the authenticity of such a performance. “I feel my relationship with Christ adds depth to my portrayal. It inspires me to love others better,” Roumie reflected.

He provided a sneak peek into the Advent Prayer Challenge offered through the Hallow app, which is available on major platforms. “With all the chaos in the world, it’s essential to find a peaceful way to prepare for the coming of Jesus. The theme is ‘Be Still’ from Psalm 46, encouraging moments of calm reflection. This guided meditation is accessible to anyone seeking peace,” he stated.

Additionally, he recounted a light-hearted moment from his summer visit with Pope Leo XIV, who joked about needing to catch up on watching The Chosen, to which Roumie responded by offering DVDs.
