Vanderbilt’s Surprise Quarterback Transfer
On Tuesday, Vanderbilt made headlines with a surprising move off the field.
The Commodores successfully convinced Jared Curtis, a highly sought-after five-star quarterback, to transfer from Georgia, stepping into the role left vacant by star quarterback Diego Pavia’s departure from the program.
Curtis shared his decision via social media, confirming the transfer amidst reports circulating earlier that day.
“It’s been wonderful being here in Nashville and watching what Vandy has done this season,” Curtis stated. “The last few weeks inspired me to want to be a part of it, to stay close to home, play in front of my family and friends, and embrace being the underdog I enjoy being. I’m thrilled to join the Dores and help build something special at home with Coach Clark Lee,” he mentioned.
A Nashville native, Curtis was highly regarded, ranking well in the Rivals and 24/7 Sports lists during his time at Nashville Christian. During his junior year, he amassed over 2,800 passing yards, threw 40 touchdown passes with just three interceptions, and scored on the ground 18 times.
Initially, Curtis chose Georgia over programs like Oregon and faced interest from various other Big Ten teams.
In his statement, Curtis expressed frustration about rumors suggesting he had reversed his commitment without consulting Georgia and Vanderbilt’s coaches or discussing it with his family first.
“I hadn’t informed anyone of my final decision yet—not even my parents or my agent,” he explained. “I wanted to have a final conversation with my family before announcing, but unfortunately, that opportunity didn’t occur, which really disappointed me.”
His admiration for Georgia, ranked No. 4, made the decision challenging as he didn’t want to let anyone down. “It was my ideal choice and definitely of my parents,” he noted. “Trying to make those who have supported me happy is tough, but ultimately, I have to follow my heart. This needs to be my decision in the end.”
Landing Curtis is a significant achievement for Vanderbilt, particularly as the program is fresh off a remarkable 10-win season under Coach Clark Lee, leading the Commodores into the College Football Playoff. His ranking was also notable, coming in at 14th on the charts released Tuesday.
