Kate and Oliver Hudson share how their family deals with political issues.

Kate Hudson and her brother Oliver recently discussed how their well-known family navigates varying political beliefs.

In a recent episode of the podcast “Sibling Revelry,” they welcomed former White House Chief of Staff and congressman Rahm Emanuel, who brought up the topic of family dynamics.

Kate shared insights about their family, noting that while they hold “different beliefs,” they prioritize communication. She acknowledged that these conversations can sometimes lead to arguments, but they ultimately come together, no matter what.

At 46 and 49 years old, Kate and Oliver are the children of actress Goldie Hawn and musician Bill Hudson. Goldie and Bill separated in 1982, and shortly after, Goldie began a long-term relationship with actor Kurt Russell, whom she met in 1968.

The couple has remained together and has a son, Wyatt Russell, while Russell also has a son, Boston, from a previous marriage.

As the discussion wrapped up, Emanuel expressed gratitude to the siblings for emphasizing family on their podcast. He highlighted that the importance of familial relationships is often overlooked in broader societal conversations.

Oliver touched upon the value of family discussions, noting that regardless of differing beliefs, there’s something universally relatable about them. He emphasized the possibility of finding common ground through open dialogue.

“We’re a fascinating family because we hold a variety of beliefs. We argue and disagree, but at the end of the day, we just want to be together,” Kate mentioned.

Oliver added humorously that while their family might not always get along, they genuinely enjoy engaging in discussions.

After their exchange with Emanuel, the siblings shared their final thoughts, with Oliver playfully stating he’d feel compelled to vote for Emanuel if he decided to run for president in 2028.

Kate reflected on the significance of public service, saying, “I think anyone who wants to serve is pursuing a vocation that’s meaningful, no matter their beliefs.”

They explored how art and public service have parallels, suggesting that both can profoundly affect society. Kate articulated how art can inspire change, while Oliver remarked on how music and film can alter perspectives and emotions.

In a light-hearted moment, Oliver joked about the impact his character on Dawson’s Creek had on viewers, while Kate agreed that his work on Nashville might resonate more with many.

“Neither of us are particularly political, but talking to those who are really fascinates me,” Kate concluded.

“Absolutely, it’s an education,” Oliver responded.
