Will Anderson Jr appreciates his head coach for strong defensive play

Will Anderson Jr.’s Impact on the Texans

Expectations were sky-high for Will Anderson Jr. after the Houston Texans traded up to secure the No. 3 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. And so far, he hasn’t disappointed. Winning the Defensive Rookie of the Year was just the beginning; he’s now recorded double-digit sacks in consecutive seasons and plays a crucial role in a defense that’s looking pretty formidable.

Despite averaging just 16.5 points per game, the Texans find themselves in the thick of the AFC South race once again.

Anderson has already achieved district championships during his first two seasons, with his defense likely being a significant factor in that success. He attributes much of his progress to head coach DeMeco Ryans. In a recent chat, he expressed, “This is really a testament to DeMeco and the culture he’s created. The way he approaches defense and the kind of talent he’s brought—both coaches and players—allow us to execute his vision. When there’s mutual understanding among the players, good things tend to follow.”

Anderson also seeks to foster a positive atmosphere in the community. Recently, he partnered with Raising Cane’s and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Houston to distribute bikes and helmets, celebrating the holiday season.

“I feel so grateful to have this platform. It doesn’t matter if you’re a single parent or grandparents raising kids; everyone deserves to feel love during Christmas,” he said. He recounted his own memories of receiving his first bike and expressed joy in helping kids experience that same delight. Seeing the cheerful faces as they rode around with their new bikes brought a lot of joy.

As the final phase of their season approaches, starting with a matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs this Sunday, the potential for further success adds a layer of excitement for the team and their fans.

Anderson concluded, “Making the playoffs would be a blessing. I’m truly excited about the challenges ahead. We’ll keep focusing on the fundamentals, taking it one day at a time while playing our brand of football and maintaining high standards.”
