According to Alex McFarland, a radio host and author, Christians aren’t really in charge of the timeline regarding Jesus’ second coming; rather, they are part of the group that welcomes it.
Despite this, McFarland feels that the current state of the world reflects Biblical predictions quite closely.
Together with co-host Bert Harper, McFarland leads the American Family Radio show explore the world and has co-written the book 100 Bible Questions and Answers about Prophecy and the End Times. The book aims to assist Christians in interpreting current events through a Biblical perspective.
This latest title is part of the “100 Bible Questions” series, which gathers inquiries from actual listeners to the show. Previous installments include 100 Bible Questions and Answers, which tackled broad Bible themes, and 100 Bible Questions and Answers for Families.
McFarland noted that people of all ages seem genuinely curious about, “When is Jesus coming back?”
The book tackles prevalent questions about today’s world and its future, giving readers guidance to navigate cultural shifts with both hope and courage, according to McFarland.
When asked if he thinks Christians are experiencing the end times, McFarland quickly stated, “Ultimately only God knows.”
He further remarked, “This moment in our history feels unprecedented.” He expressed a strong sense that the second coming may be approaching. “Right now, only the Lord knows. I’m never going to be the one to set a date. But look at Israel—they’re back in their land. The global connections are intense. We’re talking about a push for cashless systems and cryptocurrencies.”
Other signs he pointed out included rapid AI advancements and a decline in moral standards.
“It’s like the chess pieces are already on the board,” he said. “We’ve witnessed a lot of violence, terrorism, and the rise of false religions, along with persecution against Christians and Jews, and an uptick in anti-Semitism. Our message is simple: ‘Get your life sorted. First, make sure you’re connected with Christ. Then, be ready for when He returns.’” He referenced a scripture that emphasizes confidence before God’s arrival.
Although McFarland and Harper identify as premillennials, they are open to fellowship with believers holding varying eschatological views as long as they uphold the core tenets of Christianity.
“The key point that unites us is the belief in Christ’s return and His rule from Jerusalem,” he mentioned. “While we have our own detailed perspectives, we see ourselves as part of one family. It’s crucial to focus on what we clearly know and remain humble about what we might think we understand but aren’t entirely certain of.”
Discussions about end-time theology should ultimately provide comfort to Christians, he asserted.
“The Lord remains in control,” he added. “God has an impeccable record of fulfilling His promises.”
