Mike McCarthy Praises Jackson Dart’s Potential

Jackson Dart has garnered significant support from Mike McCarthy, the former coach of the Cowboys and Packers. During an episode of “The Pat McAfee Show,” McCarthy highlighted the promising future of the Giants’ rookie quarterback.

“I admire his style of play. When assessing quarterbacks, it’s essential to look at how they perform both in and out of the pocket. Dart possesses some natural abilities that are hard to teach,” McCarthy stated. He noted Dart’s knack for making plays with his agility, whether it’s maneuvering through tight spaces or executing designed runs, which reflects the coaching staff’s confidence in him.

“These attributes are great, but the real challenge in the NFL, I believe, revolves around what happens in the pocket,” he elaborated.

This season, Dart started in eight games and made appearances in ten, achieving 145 completions for 1,556 yards alongside 11 touchdowns. He also recorded 337 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns, which is impressive for a rookie.

There’s been a lot of discussion about Dart, especially since he missed a couple of games due to a concussion in November.

Recently, upon returning, Dart faced a harsh hit during a game that highlighted his physical playing style. In response to questions about his approach, Dart mentioned, “We’re not playing football here.” But McCarthy advised that Dart needs to prioritize caution on the field.

“We always emphasize two critical traits: accountability and availability,” McCarthy pointed out. “Being available is paramount. It’s crucial for a young quarterback to be consistent in playing every game and improving. That’s a significant part of his role, and he needs to be more aware of it,” he added. McCarthy expressed his admiration for Dart’s play but mentioned that he could’ve chosen to go out of bounds to avoid hits.
