Video Showing Failed ATM Robbery at Walgreens
The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office in Washington has released new footage of a botched attempt by thieves to steal an ATM from a Walgreens store. The video captures a group using a stolen truck to breach the store before taking off, highlighting what investigators are calling a well-planned robbery attempt.
In the video shared by the sheriff’s office, the truck was seen ramming into the storefront, crashing through the security gate. Two suspects exited the vehicle to attach chains to the ATM, trying to drag it outside. However, after seemingly causing considerable damage to the store, the ATM was ultimately pulled out and dragged across the parking lot as the truck sped away.
Deputies responded around 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday after receiving reports of the robbery in progress.
Witnesses informed the officers that the group had already fled the scene in the stolen truck, which was dragging the ATM behind it.
During their search, authorities also found a second vehicle linked to the crime. It appears the suspects were initially successful in loosening the ATM from its chains but abandoned it when they spotted police nearby.
The second truck escaped but was later discovered abandoned in Tacoma. Investigators suspect that this was a coordinated effort, with multiple suspects and vehicles involved.
Authorities are encouraging the public to help identify the suspects and the vehicles used during the break-in, which caused significant damage. They aim to prevent any further theft attempts.
A spokesperson from the sheriff’s office noted that following the video release, several community members reported having seen two suspicious trucks with individuals late at night, but no one acted on their instincts at the time.
“This situation illustrates the importance of reporting any suspicious activity promptly,” the spokesperson urged. “If you see something, say something.”
Investigators are also looking into whether this group is linked to recent ATM thefts in the area. As of now, the suspects are still at large, and authorities are cautious, warning that similar incidents may occur in other regions.
