Arrest Made After Violent Road Incident in Queens
Authorities in New York City have arrested a 19-year-old named Justin Aguilera following a violent road incident that was captured on camera. In the unsettling events, a couple was brutally assaulted, and a neighbor’s car was set ablaze by a group of reckless drivers.
Aguilera is facing several charges, including gang assault, riot, assault, and trespassing. This was confirmed by City Council member Vicki Palladino in a recent statement.
According to law enforcement, these charges arise from a chaotic car rally in the Marva neighborhood of Queens that took place early on November 23rd. It was reported that a couple was attacked right in their front yard, with Aguilera identified as the main assailant.
Palladino expressed appreciation for the police efforts, stating, “We all saw the blurry video. Tracking a car like that, with so many moving parts, wasn’t easy, but they got it done.” The investigation, while still in the early stages, encountered various challenges.
Video of the Assault
Disturbing footage shows a crowd gathered as one vehicle performs donuts in a residential area, igniting fireworks before one of the vehicles catches fire.
Larry Rush, a local security guard, described the tumultuous scene he witnessed from his home. He reported about 40 cars speeding recklessly down the street. Rush attempted to diffuse the situation by parking his vehicle at an intersection to prevent further chaos.
Unfortunately, his efforts were unsuccessful. “As soon as I did that, everyone started leaving,” Rush said. “Then two people approached and somehow set off fireworks, illuminating the car. That sparked another round of violence.”
Another neighbor, Blake Ferrer, also faced aggression from the mob while trying to protect his property. “When I stepped out, I knew I had to secure my things,” Ferrer recounted. “That’s how it all escalated.”
Curbing Future Incidents
As the situation unfolded, footage captured a sizable crowd surrounding the couple, leading to severe injuries for the man, including a broken nose and ribs. Palladino shared that Aguilera was apprehended shortly after for operating a vehicle with a suspended license, which allowed police to track him down.
This week, authorities also confiscated the main car reportedly used in the street takeover. Palladino added that the NYPD is actively pursuing more individuals of interest as this investigation continues.
Aguilera is set to appear in court soon. Post-incident, Palladino has pledged to collaborate with the Department of Transportation and NYPD to consider new strategies and infrastructure adjustments aimed at preventing similar occurrences in the future.
“This is not over,” she asserted. “I will not rest until everyone involved is held accountable.”
