Trump Celebrates FIFA World Cup Draw in Washington, D.C.
On Friday, President Donald Trump praised the successful draw for the 2026 World Cup held in Washington, D.C. This event marked a significant moment as he received the inaugural FIFA Peace Prize, setting the stage for the upcoming global tournament scheduled next year in the U.S.
Before a private concert by Andrea Bocelli at the White House, Trump expressed gratitude to the famous Italian tenor for his performance at the Kennedy Center. He mentioned the draw’s success, claiming that it attracted an audience of “more than a billion people” eager to see which countries would participate in the tournament starting in June.
Reflecting on Bocelli’s contribution, Trump noted, “He was very good today at the FIFA Awards.” He added, “It was an award for me, I can say, but it was a draw. And it was impossible to top today’s match, which they say was watched by over a billion people, because it was one of the greatest openings to an event I’ve ever seen. And he was in a rare form.” He concluded with, “Your actions this morning were outstanding. Thank you very much.”
The private concert was attended by Republican lawmakers and members of the Trump administration, adding to the day’s festivities where celebrities, sports icons, and global leaders gathered for the World Cup draw.
Notable figures in attendance included Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who joined Trump on stage to mark their collaboration for the convention next year.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino also honored Trump with the FIFA Peace Prize, recognizing his efforts in promoting global peace and unity. Trump described receiving this award as “truly one of the great honors of my life,” and emphasized, “Most importantly, I want to thank you all. The world is a safer place now.”
