Utah Tech Player Criticized After Punching Opponent
A basketball player from Utah Tech is under fire following an incident during a game against Santa Clara. The player, Chance Trujillo, reportedly punched an opponent, Allen Graves, after being dunked on in the final moments of a match that ended with a score of 90-80 in favor of Santa Clara.
The altercation gained traction on social media after Graves made an impressive drive and dunk over Trujillo. Following this, Trujillo celebrated by swinging at Graves as he walked away from the basket, seemingly making contact with Graves’ jaw. It’s a bit surprising, to be honest. I mean, celebrating a dunk is one thing, but throwing punches? That seems a bit over the line.
During the scuffle, Santa Clara teammates quickly intervened to separate the players, and officials moved in to avoid escalating tensions. Both players received technical fouls for their actions, though it remains uncertain if Trujillo will face further repercussions from the Western Athletic Conference.
This is Trujillo’s first season with the Trail Blazers after transferring from Snow College. He’s putting up an average of 11.7 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. In the recent game, he recorded eight points and three rebounds.
As of now, Utah Tech’s record stands at 5-6 for the season, whereas Santa Clara has improved to 8-1.
