Browns Uncertain About Shedeur Sanders Despite Strong Performance
It’s clear that the Browns are hesitant about their trust in Shedeur Sanders, despite his impressive play. This came to light when head coach Kevin Stefanski opted for a trick play during a crucial moment in the game against the Titans, a decision many found puzzling, especially after Sanders led two scoring drives in the last six minutes of the 31-29 loss.
Interestingly, Sanders wasn’t even on the field when rookie running back Quinshon Judkins received a direct snap. Judkins attempted to make a pass but it fell incomplete, leaving fans scratching their heads about the execution and timing of the play.
“I won’t dive into specifics, but obviously things didn’t align as we hoped,” Stefanski remarked, shifting some responsibility to offensive coordinator Tommy Reese. He emphasized, “At the end of the day, this falls on me.”
In his third career start, after a spell behind Joe Flacco and rookie Dillon Gabriel, Sanders threw for 364 yards along with three touchdowns but did have one interception. This performance comes amidst chatter that the Browns might revert to Deshaun Watson, a controversial choice, as the starter for 2026.
He also showcased his versatility with a 29-yard run and a rushing touchdown, giving fans a glimpse of his potential.
The game saw the Browns surge to a 31-17 lead thanks to Sanders’ 7-yard touchdown run. Rather than opting for a standard extra point, they went for a two-point conversion based on analytics, which unfortunately didn’t pan out.
When the Titans cut the lead to 31-23, Sanders orchestrated a swift seven-play, 80-yard drive culminating in a touchdown pass to rookie Harold Fannin Jr., further solidifying his capabilities.
However, things took a turn when a gadget play failed late in the game, leading to a missed onside kick attempt. After that, Sanders didn’t get another opportunity to impact the final moments, leaving fans wondering about the team’s strategy. By throwing for over 300 yards, he became the first rookie quarterback to achieve that milestone this season, yet the lingering doubts about his role remain.
