DOJ reveals a new section for enforcing gun rights under the Second Amendment

New DOJ Section Focuses on Gun Rights

Harmeet Dhillon, a Department of Justice official, has announced that a new section dedicated to gun rights will be released on Monday. She reassured Americans that there will be “more action” regarding the enforcement of gun rights.

Dillon, an assistant attorney general in the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, mentioned that the Second Amendment section was launched this month. “I’m genuinely excited about this,” Dillon expressed. “For the first time, the Civil Rights Division and the entire DOJ will work to protect and advance the public’s right to bear arms as part of its civil rights mission.”

She echoed Attorney General Pam Bondi’s view, stating, “The Second Amendment is not a second-class right. I completely agree with my boss on this.”

As President Trump’s crime crackdown continues, wait times for DC gun permits are set to be reduced from months to just days.

Dillon highlighted that the department intends to litigate gun-related issues, especially concerning concealed carry permits, across various state and local courts. “Citizens are facing exorbitant costs, often in the thousands, just to apply for a concealed carry permit, and this is where we’ll focus our efforts nationwide,” she noted.

“We’ve seen unreasonable delays in some areas, while others have restricted firearms that are protected under the Second Amendment based on recent Supreme Court rulings,” she added. Dillon further stressed that gun rights are essential for enabling individuals—especially women and those with disabilities—to protect themselves.

“We will uphold these rights at the Department of Justice,” she assured. “Just two weeks after taking office, the president issued an executive order clarifying this matter. I’ve been dedicated to the Second Amendment component of the Constitution since I joined the DOJ.”

“So, expect more action from the DOJ to safeguard Second Amendment rights,” she concluded.

Oliver Krawczyk, a lawyer specializing in Second Amendment cases at the Ambler Law Firm, told Fox News Digital that although the DOJ hasn’t always performed well on this front, establishing this section is a step in the right direction. “For years, individuals and grassroots groups have had to combat unconstitutional firearm restrictions on their own, so the federal government’s support is appreciated,” he commented. “Yet, the Department of Justice should confront its own role in Second Amendment violations.”

“Instead of pushing back against ongoing legal challenges to outdated federal gun laws, the DOJ should collaborate with pro-gun organizations to capitalize on President Trump’s limited time in office,” he added.
