Organ Harvesting Ring Uncovered in Nigeria

Nigerian officials have announced the dismantling of a large organ harvesting ring following weeks of covert surveillance.

Authorities say an intelligence-driven investigation has pointed to Senior Chief Stanley Oparaugo, also known as ‘Morocco,’ as the primary suspect. He is currently at large and wanted by the police.

Oparaugo reportedly owns the Jesse Best Hotel in Ihitte Okwe, along with a nearby mortuary called Ugwudi. Victims were said to be lured to the hotel where they were robbed and kidnapped, with their families coerced into paying ransoms. Shockingly, some families never saw their loved ones again after payment.

According to police, once taken to the mortuary, victims were killed, and their organs harvested and sold.

During a recent police raid on the Jesse Best Hotel, authorities discovered a decomposed and dismembered body in the morgue, in addition to over 100 other recovered corpses.

Police spokesperson Henry Okoye stated, “Hotels and private morgues owned by the suspects, allegedly used by kidnappers and violent criminals, were inspected.” The gruesome conditions of the mortuary suggested illegal activities, raising suspicions about the organ harvesting operation.

Evidence has also been collected from the suspect’s residence to further the investigation. Authorities assured the public that heightened security measures were in place along the Owerri-Aba Expressway, aiming to protect vacationers.

Kidnappings have become alarmingly frequent in Nigeria. In a separate incident, around 100 schoolchildren were reportedly kidnapped from St Mary’s School in Niger State on November 21. This incident amplifies ongoing concerns over the persecution of Christians in Nigeria.
