Update on NFL Quarterbacks Mahomes and Hurts
Super Bowl LIX showcased two of the NFL’s standout quarterbacks: Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts. Interestingly, it wasn’t the first championship matchup between their teams.
Fast forward ten months, and both quarterbacks are facing challenges. The Kansas City Chiefs have slipped out of playoff contention with just four weeks remaining in the regular season. Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Eagles have lost three consecutive games, and they haven’t topped 21 points in their last five outings.
Mahomes’ performance in Week 14 was particularly tough. He completed 14 of 33 passes for 160 yards and threw three interceptions during a 20-10 loss to the Houston Texans, dropping the Chiefs’ record to 6-7. He expressed disappointment about the team’s inability to seize opportunities. “We had a chance and we didn’t execute,” he noted post-game.
On the other hand, Hurts had a rough outing as well. He managed to complete 21 of 40 attempts for 240 yards but ended up with four interceptions and a lost fumble. Philadelphia suffered a setback, falling to 8-5. Although they still lead the NFC East, they seem far from the Super Bowl champions they were just months ago. Hurts admitted, “We lost the game, and we didn’t play well enough to help us win the game.”
The road ahead to Super Bowl LX is proving to be a tough climb for last year’s top teams. Currently, the only squads boasting at least 10 wins are the Denver Broncos, New England Patriots, Los Angeles Rams, and Seattle Seahawks.
