Court Appearance of Accused Apalachee High School Shooter

Colt Gray, the teenager accused of a tragic shooting at Apalachee High School, appeared in court recently, and frankly, he looked quite different from the booking photo that caught public attention. Once a 14-year-old with shoulder-length blonde hair, Gray, now 15, showed up with a more polished look—short dark hair, glasses, and dressed in a collared shirt and khakis.

In court, his lawyer, Aisha Broderick, mentioned that they are still waiting for Gray’s medical evaluation to be completed, which they expect by the end of February. This assessment will be crucial for his defense strategy. Another court date has already been lined up for March 18, 2026.

The incident in question took place on September 4, 2024, where Gray is alleged to have shot four individuals to death and injured nine others at the school. Among the victims were teachers Richard Aspinwall and Christina Irimy, both of whom lost their lives, along with two 14-year-old students, Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo.

In October 2024, Gray faced multiple charges—55 to be exact, including four counts of felony murder. His father, Colin Gray, didn’t escape scrutiny either, facing 29 charges himself, which notably include second-degree murder.

Should the cases lead to convictions, Colin could be looking at up to 180 years in prison. As for Colt, he might face life behind bars. Given that he’s a minor, the death penalty isn’t an option for him, so there’s that, at least.

Leading up to the horrific day, there had been concerns; the local sheriff’s office had visited the Gray family several times and even flagged Colt as a person of interest in May 2023, following an online threat he made while still in middle school. It’s unsettling to think about how things escalated from that point.
