Man Stabbed on Charlotte Streetcar Expresses Gratitude Amid Recovery

A man who was reportedly stabbed by an undocumented immigrant on a Charlotte streetcar last week described himself as “lucky” to be alive. Kenyon Doby, who suffered serious injuries during the attack, was hospitalized and is currently connected to a machine that helps pump blood from his lungs.

This incident occurred while Doby was riding the Blue Line in broad daylight. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) reported that he was critically injured after being confronted by Oscar Solrazano, a 33-year-old illegal immigrant from Honduras. Solrazano allegedly boarded the train with a large knife, appeared intoxicated, and taunted Doby to fight.

In a post on GoFundMe, Doby shared his experience, saying, “I am the second victim of the Blue Line stabbing. Luckily I survived, but my body has sustained significant damage. I have tubes running from my chest to a machine that pumps blood through my lungs. Please help and pray for a speedy recovery.” He clearly feels the weight of the situation.

Solrazano has been deported previously—once under the Trump administration in 2018 and again in 2021. His criminal history includes convictions for robbery and multiple arrests for violent crimes. Following the stabbing, he has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and other offenses.

A release order indicated that Solrazano’s immigration status does not affect his bond, and he will be handed over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after his release.

This stabbing is particularly noteworthy as it follows another violent incident on the same Blue Line, where a Ukrainian refugee, Irina Zalutka, was fatally stabbed just months earlier. The suspect in her case faces serious charges, including those that could lead to the death penalty.

Former President Donald Trump weighed in on the situation, criticizing the state of safety in Charlotte and linking it to Democratic leadership. He remarked, “Another illegal immigrant stabbing in Charlotte, North Carolina. What’s going on in Charlotte? Democrats are destroying Charlotte piece by piece like everything else!!!”

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy also expressed his frustration, pointing fingers at Charlotte’s Mayor Vi Lyles and questioning what else needs to happen before action is taken against violent criminals. He urged for immediate measures to ensure public safety.

As of now, Doby’s GoFundMe campaign has raised nearly $18,000, reflecting the community’s support amid the aftermath of this violent incident. Doby, the CMPD, and ICE have yet to comment further on the situation.
