The college football scene was rocked on Wednesday when the University of Michigan decided to let go of head coach Sherrone Moore due to allegations of an “inappropriate relationship” with a staff member. Compounding the situation, he was arrested as part of an “assault investigation.”
Just when things seemed to calm down, Moore’s dismissal stirred up the coaching carousel once more. Lane Kiffin, the new head coach for the LSU Tigers, quickly came into the spotlight as a name to watch.
Kiffin had already stirred some controversy with his choice to leave the Ole Miss Rebels in advance of the College Football Playoff selections. Instead of pursuing potential glory with the Rebels, he is now tasked with revitalizing LSU to re-establish its reputation as a dominant force.
Interestingly, Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy took to social media, suggesting Michigan should consider doubling Kiffin’s pay to lure him back. Yet, it seems Kiffin has already made his choice.
In the wake of the Moore situation, a former LSU star publicly urged a Michigan player to transfer, emphasizing the turmoil. Portnoy chimed in, stating, “Instead @stoolepresidente #ComeToTheBoot Together, we won’t lose,” referencing a desire for collaboration.
Shortly after, Portnoy shifted gears, listing potential candidates he believed would be suitable for the Michigan role. He mentioned names like Jon Gruden, Nick Saban, Dan Lanning from Oregon, and Deion Sanders from Colorado among others.
For now, the University of Michigan has appointed Biff Poggi as interim coach while they prepare for the Citrus Bowl matchup against the Texas Longhorns.
As for Moore, he found himself in jail late Wednesday, but no charges have yet been leveled against him.
