Sherone Moore Remains in Custody Following Investigation
After being taken into custody on Wednesday night, Sherone Moore will stay in jail for the moment. The former head coach of Michigan is currently “under active law enforcement investigation,” and officials suggest that any potential charges won’t be announced until at least Friday.
The Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office stated, “Mr. Moore remains in custody at the Washtenaw County Jail. We cannot comment further due to the ongoing investigation but will provide updates once a decision on the charges is made.”
Moore was terminated from his position on the same day after the University of Michigan uncovered credible evidence of an “inappropriate relationship” with an employee. Following this discovery, he was booked into prison.
The Athletic Director, Warde Manuel, remarked, “This conduct is a clear violation of university policy, and UM has no tolerance for such behavior.”
In relation to the police investigation, the University of Michigan’s Athletic Department commented that, unfortunately, they “cannot comment on personnel matters” and have no additional information to share, besides their initial statement.
Pittsfield police identified that they responded to a residence as part of an assault investigation. They mentioned that one suspect is currently in custody and that the incident doesn’t appear to have been random. The individual remains held in the Washtenaw County Jail as the charges are reviewed.
Moore, who married in 2015, has three daughters with his wife.
Biff Poggi Named Interim Coach
In light of these developments, Francis Xavier “Biff” Poggi has been appointed as the interim head coach and will lead the team during the upcoming Citrus Bowl on December 31 against Texas. Earlier this season, he stepped in for the suspended Moore.
