Stephen Colbert Seeks Advice from Taylor Swift on Life After Late Night
On a recent episode of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” the host asked pop star Taylor Swift for some guidance on what to do once his show concludes in May 2026. Colbert, who has hosted the late-night program for over two decades, is contemplating his next steps.
“I need some advice. I have about six months left here. Do you have any thoughts on what I should do?” Colbert inquired, prompting laughter from the audience.
He also mentioned the challenges of transitioning after finishing a lengthy tour, referring to her two-year “Ellas Tour.” “Do you have any thoughts for me?” he added.
With a chuckle, Swift replied, “In this particular situation, no.” However, she offered some more general suggestions. She encouraged Colbert to leverage his skills for his loved ones or dive into new hobbies. “We both tend to be passionate, hyperactive individuals,” she commented. “Hobbies can be fulfilling in that way. I enjoy preparing for various activities and sharing the outcome with my audience, family, and friends.”
Colbert humorously responded, “But my friends and family don’t chant my name, Taylor,” highlighting the difference between their experiences.
This conversation comes in the context of CBS’s announcement in July that “The Late Show” will end after the 2025-2026 season due to financial pressures. The network’s statement acknowledged Colbert’s irreplaceable role and expressed pride in his contributions to late-night television.
Colbert later expressed frustration towards CBS’s parent company, Paramount Skydance, in light of the cancellation. He joked about the company’s recent acquisition efforts, saying, “If my company has that kind of money, I’m sure they can afford to cancel one of their best shows.”
