New Home for U.S. Army Veteran in Wyoming

U.S. Army veterans and their families are now able to enjoy a special kind of home, courtesy of the nonprofit organization Homes for Our Troops.

On Saturday, Army Staff Sergeant Brian Price officially entered his newly designed home in Casper, Wyoming, receiving the keys during a ceremony that honored his bravery and sacrifices, as reported by Oil City News on Wednesday.

Price’s home is wheelchair accessible, eliminating the difficulties he faced in mobility. He expressed how this new environment will help him be the best husband and father possible.

“Everyone wants a home. Everyone wants to have their own home,” Price remarked. “And the gift of a home is such a wonderful gift to give someone, especially one that’s been perfectly tailored, built, and designed for you. It’s me. I’m getting older, and my joints are starting to hurt. They talked about skiing and all that, but now I’m really feeling it. So it’s kind of a struggle not to live in a modified house.”

A group of quilters presented Price with a Quilt of Valor during the ceremony, highlighting the community’s support for him.

Price’s journey began in June 2006 when he fell seriously ill while serving in Baghdad, Iraq. While part of the 2nd Brigade of the 101st, an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded next to his vehicle, resulting in significant injuries. As detailed on the Homes for Our Troops website, the blast—following a gunfight with enemy forces—left him with shrapnel wounds to his back and legs, leading to paralysis from the waist down.

Despite the challenges, Price found a passion for cross-country skiing and biathlon, which helped him regain some freedom from his injuries. The website notes that being on the snow negated some of the limitations imposed by his wheelchair. Beyond sports, he also enjoys coaching.

Once the nonprofit learned about Price’s story, its leaders were inspired to create a safe, peaceful space for him and his family.

“They not only help me, but more importantly, they help my family because they provide security, allowing me to be a father and a husband,” he shared.
