Todd Frazier Critiques Mets’ Recent Moves

The man who dubbed Pete Alonso as “Polar Bear” isn’t too thrilled with the Mets currently.

Former Mets third baseman Todd Frazier recently voiced his disappointment regarding the team’s decisions to let go of several long-serving players.

This week, the Mets inked a five-year deal with Alonso, who heads to the Orioles, while standout closer Edwin Diaz is now with the Dodgers, the reigning World Series champions.

Additionally, in November, the organization traded popular outfielder Brandon Nimmo to the Rangers for Marcus Semien.

“It’s confusing. You signed Juan Soto to a massive contract, and bringing back those key players should have been your focus,” Frazier remarked during an appearance on “Foul Territory.”

Aside from signing former Yankees closer Devin Williams to a three-year contract, the Mets have refrained from making any significant transactions and now face challenges in replacing their high-profile losses.

Frazier emphasized, “There aren’t many players in baseball like Pete Alonso. Edwin Diaz is one of the top closers of this generation, and Brandon Nimmo is incredibly reliable.”

“Those three will bring excitement to any team.”

In light of the Mets’ disappointing 2025 season that saw them miss the playoffs, President of Baseball Operations David Stearns stated, “Going back to the exact same group is not the right thing to do.”

After the exit of Alonso and Diaz, owner Steve Cohen informed Jon Heyman of the Post, “We still have a lot of offseason left to build the team.”

Still, Frazier challenged the reasoning behind breaking up the core during an underwhelming season.

“Okay, I’m not motivated anymore, what do I do? What comes next for the Mets? There isn’t much to work with,” he said.

“You know, those players need to think, ‘Sure, I’ll go there.’ But who would really want to join now knowing the direction things are headed?”
