Jon Husted Files for Re-Election
Ohio Republican Senator Jon Husted officially submitted his re-election papers on Friday, concluding a week that showcased his campaign’s key goal in what is anticipated to be a costly and prominent Senate race.
Husted expressed that he filed because, “too many people in Washington have forgotten what it’s like to live, work, and raise a family in Ohio.” He emphasized that his campaign will prioritize cutting costs, job creation, securing borders, and “making America affordable again.”
This filing comes after a busy week during which Husted released a new campaign video, his first ad, and assembled a leadership team of 112 county campaign chairs from all 88 Ohio counties—a notably expansive organization effort for this early in the election cycle.
His team comprises 23 county commissioners, 20 Republican county chairs, nine mayors, seven sheriffs, and five state legislators.
Support from Trump
Entering the 2026 race, Husted has the endorsement of former President Donald Trump, who praised him as a “credible conservative” dedicated to Ohio’s interests.
According to Husted’s campaign, the early filing and extensive statewide workforce send a strong message about his proactive approach. “My focus is to reach working families in Ohio,” Husted stated. He mentioned that this focus remains unchanged in this campaign and will continue into his next term if elected.
Opposition Insights
Husted was appointed to the Senate by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine to fill J.D. Vance’s position when Vance left to become Trump’s vice president. He will be running against longtime Democratic figure Senator Sherrod Brown next year.
Brown, who has held statewide office for several years, is expected to campaign on issues like preserving union jobs, defending Social Security and Medicare, as well as opposing what he calls “corporate greed.”
In the meantime, Husted’s campaign aims to portray Brown as a Washington insider disconnected from Ohio’s economic and cultural needs, echoing a strategy successfully employed by Ohio’s Bernie Moreno in the previous election.
“Ohio needs Jon Husted, a conservative champion in the U.S. Senate,” a voiceover states in Husted’s first campaign ad, which was released earlier this week.
