Political Predictions on Texas Senate Race
Scott Jennings, a Republican strategist, shared his thoughts on Wednesday’s “Spot on with Link Lauren” regarding the upcoming Texas Senate race. He predicts that Democratic Representative Jasmine Crockett will secure the Senate primary victory but ultimately fall short in the general election.
Crockett recently announced her intent to challenge Republican Senator John Cornyn and will face off against fellow Democrat Representative James Talarico in the primary. Jennings noted that while Crockett is favored by the Democratic base, she may struggle to connect with a wider audience in Texas. He remarked, “She can win the Democratic primary. Yes, because that’s what the Democratic base wants. Jasmine Crockett is the smartest Democrat in Congress… She’s the face of the Democratic Party. And she’s going to beat Talarico in Texas, I think.” Jennings added that establishment Democratic operatives seem to prefer her candidacy.
“The Democratic base wants Ms. Crockett. They want someone who aligns with their image portrayed on cable news or social media,” Jennings continued. He described her supporters as being, essentially, part of an online fantasy, disconnected from the broader electorate that Crockett represents.
Crockett’s recent appearances have raised eyebrows, particularly her claim on CNN’s “The Source” about an EPA Secretary receiving donations from Jeffrey Epstein, which she later attempted to clarify. Additionally, comments she made regarding Latinos who voted for Donald Trump being described as having a “slave mentality” were also revisited, with Crockett denying the remarks during an appearance on “The Lead with Jake Tapper.”
Jennings concluded by expressing concern over the communication style adopted by Democrats, suggesting that while Crockett might navigate the primary race successfully, the general election could be a different story. “It’s very embarrassing, but for some reason, Democrats have accepted this style… I think she’s going to lose the general election,” he stated.
