Giants Face Injuries Ahead of Commanders Game

Injuries can really signal the end of a season, especially for a team like the Giants, who are out of playoff contention at this point.

Five players have been officially ruled out for the match against the Commanders: DT Rakeem Nunez Roches Sr. (ankle), OLB Kayvon Thibodeau (shoulder), WR Beau Collins (neck/concussion), OLB Victor Dimukeje (knee), and CB Nick Jones (shoulder).

Punter Jamie Gillan is questionable due to a left knee issue, which means that veteran Cam Johnston is likely to be brought up from the practice squad.

Additionally, there are seven players who are listed as questionable: DT Dexter Lawrence (hamstring), DT DJ Davidson (illness), OL Joshua Ezeudu (calf), LB Demetrius Flanigan-Fowles (illness/neck/knee), CB Art Green (hamstring), LB Darius Muasau (ankle), and WR Gunner Olszewski (concussion). Notably, Lawrence appeared on the injury report just recently, on Friday.

Should Green, Muasau, Ezeudu, or Collins be placed on injured reserve, the Giants will need to shuffle their roster on Saturday.

Interim head coach Mike Kafka has mentioned that they’ve discussed various scenarios regarding the lineup as they prepare for the game.

Thibodeau was hopeful before the bye week about returning, aiming for the last stretch of games. Now, it seems he’s looking at possibly returning for just three.

“There’s still a lot of optimism,” Kafka noted. “I think he’s excited to get back out there with the team. It’s just about when he feels ready and when the doctors give the green light.”

The Giants made a recent move by claiming WR Ryan Miller off waivers from the Buccaneers, where he saw action on both offense and special teams.

Kafka reflected on the last snow game at MetLife Stadium, recalling his time coaching from the booth. He’s preparing for any inclement weather this Sunday but emphasized that snow won’t deter their game plan as much as wind or rain might. “Snow games were always fun,” he added with a hint of nostalgia.
