Former Michigan Coach Faces Serious Charges

Prosecutors have shared alarming details regarding the charges against Sherone Moore, the ex-head football coach at Michigan. Among the accusations is a threat to use “a pair of scissors” while expressing intentions for suicide in front of his former mistress.

These unsettling allegations were presented during Moore’s arraignment on Friday in Pittsfield Township, near Ann Arbor. Prosecutor Kati Rezmierski elaborated on the circumstances surrounding the case, indicating the charges she intends to pursue, which include third-degree home invasion, stalking, and trespassing.

During the proceedings, Moore was in a separate room, dressed in a white jumpsuit, while Rezmierski outlined the events that allegedly culminated in this situation.

“The victim ended the relationship with the defendant on Monday morning,” Rezmierski stated.

It has since come to light that Moore’s mistress was identified as Paige Shiver.

Rezmierski continued by detailing Moore’s persistent attempts to communicate with Shiver after their breakup. After repeatedly ignoring Moore’s messages, Shiver decided to confront the Michigan State administrator, providing evidence of their prior interactions, including text messages and other forms of communication.

This information ultimately led to Moore being terminated from his position on Wednesday afternoon by Michigan athletic director Ward Manuel for cause.

After his dismissal, prosecutors described how Moore allegedly “burst into” Shiver’s apartment and immediately entered the kitchen, where he reportedly grabbed “a few butter knives” and “kitchen shears.” He then told Shiver, “I’m going to kill myself. I’m going to keep an eye on you. My blood is on your hands. You’ve ruined my life.”

Under Michigan law, third-degree burglary is classified as a felony, carrying a potential sentence of up to five years in prison and a fine up to $2,000. Stalking is considered a misdemeanor with possible penalties of a year in jail and a $1,000 fine, while trespassing also qualifies as a misdemeanor, which can lead to 90 days in jail and a $500 fine.

Moore, age 39, was taken into custody and booked at the Washtenaw County Jail on Wednesday, December 10, around 8:30 p.m.

Officers were dispatched to a location within Pittsfield Township to investigate a reported assault at approximately 4:10 p.m. They apprehended a suspect but initially withheld his identity.

A statement from the Pittsfield County Police noted, “This incident does not appear to be random in nature, and there does not seem to be an ongoing threat to the community.” The suspect remains in custody at Washtenaw County Jail as the prosecutor reviews the charges, with the investigation still active.

The report of the assault came just half an hour before Michigan’s athletic director announced Moore’s firing.

Biff Poggi is set to take over as the interim head coach at the University of Michigan.
