Controversial Children’s Book on Abortion Raises Concerns
A new children’s book presents abortion as a “superpower,” igniting significant backlash from those who believe it normalizes the procedure for young readers. Titled “Abortion is Everything“, this book is set for release in January 2026, targeting kids aged 5 to 8. The publication by the activist group Shout Your Abortion takes a positive approach to a highly divisive medical subject.
Sarah Gabel Seifert, co-founder of a pro-life diaper company, expressed her worry about the impact of such messages on young children. “It’s very concerning that they’re directing these kinds of messages to children as young as five,” she said.
Written by activist Amelia Bonneau and educator Rachel Kessler, the book describes abortion as a “uniquely human superpower,” suggesting it empowers individuals to envision their desired future.
Shout Your Abortion encourages parents, caregivers, and teachers to use this book to introduce children to the topic. However, Gabel Seifert criticized it for potentially framing abortion as virtuous, stating, “Abortion is not ‘everything.’ It ends life.” She advocated for teaching children about the dignity and value of every human life, emphasizing that it deserves to be celebrated and protected from conception onwards.
Pro-life factions pointed out Bonneau’s history of encouraging discussions around abortion with children, recalling her appearance on “Kids Meet,” where she openly discussed her own experiences.
Gabel Seifert viewed the release of this book as part of a broader trend of activists attempting to shape young attitudes about abortion. She voiced concerns that such narratives portray children as burdens and dismiss unborn fetuses as mere cells. “Once those ideas are laid down, it’s no surprise that the loudest cultural voices endorse abortion as the empowering solution for unplanned pregnancies,” she added.
To counteract this, Gabel Seifert stressed the importance of instilling a different message: that children should be regarded as gifts rather than problems. “We need to provide a countercultural message that values children and parenthood,” she insisted.
She urged parents to initiate age-appropriate discussions about sensitive topics like abortion before children encounter them in media or from activists. “We must guide young people to think critically about their decisions and recognize the long-term impacts those choices can have,” she advised. “Abortion is a significant decision that alters one’s life, and it’s our responsibility to help them understand that.”
