Urban Meyer, recognized as one of the top coaches in college football history, shared his condolences for Sherone Moore and his family following the unexpected firing of the former University of Michigan head coach last week.
“Last night I prayed for that family,” Meyer mentioned during his appearance on the “Triple Option Podcast,” where he referenced Moore’s wife and daughter.
“I mean, we’ve got three girls who were at the top a week ago,” Meyer reflected, recalling his own national championship victory at Ohio State nearly a decade ago.
The situation took a surprising turn for Moore, a married father of three, when he lost his job coaching the Wolverines. He was dismissed for cause after the university verified he had an inappropriate relationship with a staff member.
Things escalated when Moore was arrested for allegedly breaking into a staff member’s home, where he reportedly brandished a butter knife during a dispute and threatened self-harm.
On Friday, he faced charges that included third-degree burglary, a felony, along with two misdemeanors: stalking and trespassing.

Even Meyer, who has had his fair share of controversies during his brief and troubled time as head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars—infamously caught on video behaving inappropriately with someone who wasn’t his wife in 2021—was taken aback by Moore’s dismissal.
“They beat the Buckeyes 6-0 at home,” Meyer stated, referring to Michigan’s strong start against their rival Ohio State on November 29. “Then they wake up in this situation. Rivalry aside, it’s about the human aspect. These are serious events that I’ve read about, and the repercussions become evident. Forget about football. Who even cares about football?”
