There’s quite an unsettling story coming out.
A DoorDash driver was caught on a doorbell camera spraying an unknown substance on a food delivery, but she asserted that her intention was simply to deter spiders.
The incident, which took place on December 7, shows Courtney Stevenson delivering an Arby’s order to an Indiana residence. After snapping a confirmation photo, she casually sprayed the bag with an aerosol product.
Stevenson, who hails from Kentucky, reportedly explained that she was merely trying to get rid of a spider when police attempted to stop her.
Following their meal, Mandy and Mark Cardin experienced vomiting and a burning sensation in their throats, according to police reports.
Stevenson mentioned to detectives that while visiting her father in Indiana, she decided to work for DoorDash.
“I saw my wife starting to eat, and then she was choking and gasping,” Mark Cardin recounted. “She ended up vomiting after just a few bites.”
Mark attempted to reach Stevenson through the DoorDash app but discovered she had blocked him. Seeing the video from the doorbell camera and not recognizing her, he posted her image on Facebook.
After authorities identified her, Indiana officials charged Stevenson with two counts of battery resulting in serious bodily injury and two counts of tampering with a consumer package. She was later arrested in Kentucky and will be extradited to Indiana.
In the meantime, the Cardins are left to ponder whether they will order food delivery again.
“We’re thinking it was probably pepper spray. But with everything nowadays, it could’ve been something worse. It could’ve been rat poison or fentanyl. My wife could have died,” Cardin expressed to a news outlet.
