Kentucky Woman Arrested for Allegedly Spraying DoorDash Food

A woman from Kentucky was arrested after reportedly using pepper spray on food meant for DoorDash customers, claiming she intended to target spiders instead.

Courtney N. Stevenson was taken into custody by the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office after a doorbell camera captured her spraying a substance on a customer’s order during delivery. The incident, which left a couple feeling ill, gained traction online.

Stevenson now faces several felony charges, including battery and tampering with a consumer product, according to a statement from the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office. “Residents should be able to trust that the food they order for their families is safe,” Sheriff Noah Robinson remarked. “When someone violates that trust and puts others at risk, we will respond with urgency and pursue charges.”

The bizarre situation unfolded on December 7 in Vanderburgh County, Indiana, when Mark Cardin and his wife reported sudden nausea shortly after receiving their late-night DoorDash delivery. Reports indicate they experienced burning sensations in their mouths, noses, and throats before vomiting.

After reviewing the doorbell footage, the couple observed a woman, identified as Stevenson, drop off their order, snap a photo, and spray something onto their food before driving away.

DoorDash verified Stevenson as the delivery driver, and when contacted, she claimed the spray was meant for a spider she encountered during the delivery. However, investigators noted that temperatures were about 35 degrees Fahrenheit that night, making it unlikely that spiders would be active outside.

According to the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office, “She insisted that she was afraid of spiders and was not aiming the spray at the food.” Yet, the cold weather conditions cast doubt on her explanation.

Stevenson also mentioned she was in Indiana to visit her father and had been making deliveries for DoorDash while there. She has been charged with two Level 6 felonies for battery and defamation and two Level 5 felonies for tampering with a consumer product.

Currently, she is being held pending extradition to Indiana, with a cash bond of $3,500 set by authorities. DoorDash confirmed that Stevenson has been terminated from her position after the incident.

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office has not yet responded to requests for further comments regarding the case.
