Izzy Gurdon, who works as California Governor Gavin Newsom’s communications director, seemingly referred to rapper Nicki Minaj as a “stupid hoe” after she criticized the governor’s comments.
On Friday, Minaj took to social media to voice her disapproval of Newsom following his remarks to The New York Times regarding his interest in engaging with transgender children and supporting legislation related to transgender rights.
“Imagine yourself as a man running to meet transgender children,” she tweeted. “Not even transgender adults are going to buy into this. Normal adults want to wake up and see their kids healthy, safe, and happy. Not Gav. Gav Nots. GavOUT. Send me the next guy, I’m bored.”
She concluded that Newsom’s political career was over, suggesting he should pivot to something else. “Oh Gavi Pooh, things only get worse for you from here, buddy. This is the end of the road for you, my love,” she posted. “Ride the nearest jet ski and let that beautiful hair fly in the wind. You’ll be happier than a race you can’t win. Enjoy life. Peace.”
Gurdon indirectly responded to Minaj on the platform X on Saturday, sharing an image of a T-shirt with her name and image in a trash can alongside the caption, “Stupid hoe.”
He faced backlash, particularly from California Republican Rep. Carl DeMaio, who accused him of making a derogatory remark towards Black women. Gurdon countered, saying, “If you’re a certified homosexual, you know that ‘Stupid Hoe’ is Nicki Minaj’s best song. We might need to take away your gay card, Carl. Your transgressions have become intolerable.” This phrase refers to Minaj’s popular track released in 2011.
Minaj didn’t directly address Gurdon’s remark but accused Newsom’s team of focusing too much on her. She posted several remarks criticizing his administration.
In one of her posts, she remarked on Newsom’s desperation to connect with younger audiences: “A political career on the brink recalibrated to be just another Nicki Minaj anti. OOF. So now he’s a guy who wants to ‘meet trans kids’ and is willing to reduce himself to just another female rapper to be wiped out by Nicki Minaj. #FREEChristians #NewScum.”
She also reflected on the nature of political battles, suggesting that he was risking much by opposing her. “They’re going to take a career politician with everything to lose and make him drop everything just to go against me,” she said. “The funny thing is, he doesn’t know how this is going to end. I must be a pretty powerful woman. Praise God, it’s going to be okay.”
Fox News Digital has reached out for comments from both Minaj and Newsom’s representatives.
